  Bama Welcomes New Head Coach

Alabama shocked the world today with the hiring of Joe Dirt as Head Coach. AD Mal Moore was quoted as saying," Joe embodies every good thing that Alabama football represents." Dirt, who was visibly giddy, wasted no time in hiring Kicking Wing as his new Offensive Coordinator; a move designed to bring the "fireworks" back to Alabama. We can now look forward to such plays as the "Whisker Do", the "Whisker Don't", and other spectacular grid iron displays. Bama novelty shops weren't so thrilled with the hiring, with the undying popularity of the mullett still prevalent in the region, there will likely be no rush to produce the Coach Dirt fake mullett for Game day.

Vols Scratched But Finally Declaw Cats

It wasn't pretty, it wasn't even cute; but UT managed to hang on for a big win over the upstart Wildcats Saturday in Ktown. Using a defense suspiciously like the one we saw vs LSU and Arkansas, we basically did all we could to lose this one. Granted, Kentucky is a much better team than we've seen come from Lexington since the Tim Couch days, but UT really should have handled them easier than we did. With all the time now before we go Bowling we should heal up injured guys like Jerod Mayo and Ainge and be back at full speed come bowl time. My scenario has us in the Peach vs Va Tech, but I'm no expert. This would be a great game though, we are 5-2 vs the Hokies all time, with our last encounter a 45-23 blowout in the 94 Gator Bowl. However this is purely speculation at this point. I personally am proud of the bounce back this season, I expected improvement, but not quite like this. We could easily have 1 loss at this point with a little luck vs UF and LSU, but overall I tip my hat to the guys, great season!

Vols to play 7-4 Kentucky..... is that right?????
Kentucky 7-4???????? No i'm not talking about the beginning of the basketball season....i'm talking about football and i'm not kidding. Kentucky is 7-4.... that's seven wins and four losses. Kentucky has not defeated the Vols since 1984. Lets hope the Vols take care of business early with them.......
  Lookback at 1996
The 1996 Vols finished the season with an impressive 10-2 record, however, the season still left a bad taste in the mouth of most Vol fans. The usual loss to Florida was the lone red mark on the record, and then came the ninth of November. Billed as a "home" game by most fans the highly ranked Vols went into the Liberty Bowl confident of a Peyton Manning led win. When the smoke cleared the Vols had suffered their first loss ever to the Tigers. It took alot of mistakes and a miracle special teams play but Memphis managed to pull the upset, crushing any hopes of a National title run for the Vols. We ran the table the rest of the season, and finished on a high note by demolishing Northwestern in the Citrus Bowl 48-28, ending the season ranked #9. We are still left wondering what might have been if the Miracle in Memphis had gone the other way.

  BCS Getting Crazier

With OSU's huge win over Michigan Saturday, you would think the BCS Championship Game race would have cleared up a bit; that is definitely not the case. With Michigan still holding down the number 2 spot things are no more clear than they were before they played. There are still a number of scenarios to be played out, but should the right teams lose we may well see a rematch. I really feel that if a USC victory over ND takes place, the Trojans have the inside track. Don't count out UF though, if Arkansas wins out and UF wins handily in the SEC title game it could help the Gators. Alot can happen in the next two weeks, personally a Ohio State/Michigan rematch would be valid in my opinion. But the SEC fan in me would like to see the Gators or Hogs slip in. Hit us with your opinions or scenarios.

Ainge Answers Question with Exclamation Point !
Erik Ainge answered my question with an outstanding performance in Cashville Saturday. His numbers weren't eye popping but they were solid, and almost mirrored the stats of one over hyped QB up north in South Bend. Senior Jayson Swain had a TD and reliable Robert Meacham added another. I was impressed again with LaMarcus Coker, a little more consistency blocking and we could have an outstanding ground attack. Finally!! Our defense figured out a way to stop a running QB! Assignment football finally arrived in the UT defense, and they performed as well as I've seen against the run. If only we could have done that in Arkansas! Overall I was pleased with our performance. Next up, Randy Sanders and the Cats. They could cause us problems, if anyone knows how to kill our offense it's Sanders! Great win over an up and coming Vandy team, Go Vols!

Which No. 10 Will We See Saturday?
On the eve of the Vandy game one question is on my mind. Which Erik Ainge will take the field? The dead aim, strong armed, accurate guy we saw early this year, or the hobbled, mechanically challenged version of 2005? Ainge has impressed the nation this year with his play and poise, my fear is that with a still tender ankle he may struggle with his mechanics. Like Casey Clausen before him, who struggled in the cold or with a minor injury, I feel Erik could have a tough outing tomorrow if the ankle isn't close to 100%. Hopefully that won't be the case, especially with a very game Vanderbilt squad lurking. Gameplan should be simple, stop their very mobile QB and RB, and generate SOME type of running attack to take the pressure off Ainge, two things we haven't been able to do the last two weeks. I still pick the Vols to get it done. Sidenote: Thanks to Voluminous for giving me the opportunity to help him out with some threads, I'll try to keep it interesting. VOLPIMP
